VulcanForms Inc. seeks a Simulation Engineer - AM Process and Printer Subsystem Simulation for our Devens (Hybrid), location.

Job Purpose

VulcanForms is seeking a Simulation Engineer - AM Process and Printer Subsystem Simulation, to join our Simulation and Modeling team in Devens, MA. In this role, your main objective will be to run FEA and/or CFD simulations of our laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) printing process to predict part distortion, structural and flow simulations of various subsystems (for example, powder recoating system, build plate assemblies, machine frame) of the printer, and interpret the simulation results, and recommend part geometry design modifications, and other recommendations to our product, process, and design teams. Your work will primarily contribute to building printers of the highest reliability and efficiency and provide our customers with superior parts of the highest quality that meet or exceed their specifications.

You will also work with a cross-disciplinary internal team to further improve our AM system design and performance. You will participate in and provide first-hand feedback on machine design and integration and software and control development and implementation.)

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform simulations to predict potential distortion and cracking of customer parts before they are sent to production (print/process simulation).
  • Perform structural (FEA) and flow simulations (CFD) of various subsystems (for example, powder recoating system, build plate assemblies, machine frame, flow inside print chamber, etc.) of the printer.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree with 2+ years of relevant work experience; or PhD degree.
  • Working knowledge in CAD and solid model file management (Windchill or other PLM).
  • Working knowledge of Python scripting.
  • Authorized to work within the U.S. without restrictions or sponsorship now or in the future (U.S.
  • Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S. (U.S. green card holder)).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with any of the following commercial software programs:
  • FEA and CFD software (i.e., Ansys, Fluent, Abaqus, etc.).
  • CFD (i.e., Creo, SolidWorks, etc).
  • AM simulation tools (i.e., Ansys AM, Simufact, etc.).
  • Data and results visualization tools (Paraview, VTK, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Python scripting for VTK/Paraview.
  • Working knowledge of C++ programming.
  • Experience with material constitutive models, metal plasticity, fracture mechanics.
  • PhD degree in Materials, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of metal additively manufactured process and post processing.
  • Thrives in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical documentation experience.
  • Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry or educational experience.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup company environment.
