VulcanForms Inc. seeks a Fiberoptic Manufacturing Technician for our Devens, MA, location.
Job Purpose
As a Fiberoptic Manufacturing Technician in our Devens, MA, location, you will be working to produce and test complex fiberoptic assemblies in a cleanroom environment to the highest quality standards. VulcanForms is a manufacturer of complex, high value engineered components in serial production at the world's most powerful additive foundry.
This opportunity is a very hands-on job requiring familiarity with lasers, precise optomechanical assembly, optical fiber handling, stripping, cleaving, fusion splicing and test & measurement. We operate under Statistical Process Control for all critical parameters and the manufacturing team is responsible for in process inspection and meeting quality and capacity goals. The tasks assigned to this role are technically challenging and will test your attention to detail and precision.
Please note that the Fiberoptic Manufacturing Technician is shift-based: 1st shift runs from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Key Accountabilities
- Assemble complex optomechanical fiberoptic systems
- Conduct optical/mechanical tests
- Record all test data accurately and determine pass/fail disposition per work instructions
- Abide by all cleanroom, chemical handling, laser safety, housekeeping procedures and policies
- Assist the teams' daily operations, including maintaining the cleanroom and equipment, developing the necessary safety and work procedures, developing assembly methods, maintaining order and inventory
- Work with a cross-disciplinary team to improve our AM system design and performance further.
- Participate in and provide first-hand feedback on fiberoptic assembly design and integration.
Qualifications
- 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience; or certification program of comparable scope
- Experience with precision fiberoptic and/or optomechanical assemblies, component inspection, Statistical Process Control, cleanroom operations
- Experienced with optical, mechanical, and or electrical test equipment. Such as: Fusion Splicers, Cleavers, Coating Strippers, Interferometers, Detectors, Ultrasonic Cleaning, mechanical tools, precision alignment
- Routine computer use for data collection, communication and reporting
Preferred
- Experience manufacturing under Statistical Process Control
- Hands-on experience with fiberoptic coupling and fiber termination techniques
- Precision hand/eye coordination and manipulation skills
- Experience with setting up and conducting optical, electrical, temperature, and data logging tests
- Skilled in precision assembly
