Job Purpose
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at VulcanForms, you will lead or contribute to the design, build, and deployment of mechanical subsystems to support our metal-additive printing operation. In this role, you would often be leading projects and/or other engineers to create and replicate robust and efficient machine systems designed for an industrial-scale additive manufacturing operation.
Key Accountabilities:
- Your main objective will be to design, commission, and support mechanical subsystems for an industrial-scale, high-precision laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) system. You will be working with a variety of compressed gas, water, metal powder, and industrial automation systems.
- Responsibilities will include tracking and driving aggressive project schedules and communication of status, progress, and challenges to engineering management.
- Defining system requirements and specifications for the design, build, procurement, and deployment of machine systems. Designs and systems need to integrate seamlessly with current printer tooling and post-processing equipment while meeting all safety and handling requirements.
- Managing external vendors as required to successfully meet project requirements and schedules.
- Oversee and participate in the system integration, machine building, commissioning, and gathering first-hand feedback on the performance of designs.
- Day-to-day work alongside a team of mechanical, controls, and process engineers and technicians in a fast-paced startup environment.
Qualifications:
- 8 years of mechanical engineering experience, industry or research experience.
- Demonstrated experience in machine or product design, showing successful track record of project completion, from conceptualization to development, verification and validation, and industrial implementation or commercialization.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in mechanical systems.
Preferred
- 10 or more years of industry or research experience
- Experience with industrial equipment and automation design for handling and manipulation of heavy structures.
- Hands-on familiarity with machine shop equipment and processes (e.g., manual and/or CNC milling machines, lathes, etc.)
- Experience with PTC Creo and Windchill PDM
Benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance are available to you starting on your first day of employment
- Generous time off package, including vacation PTO, sick PTO, and 14 company-paid federal holidays
- 401(k) with company match and stock options
