The Role

As our Material Planning Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our factory maintains optimal inventory levels of parts and components, balancing supply and demand to keep production running smoothly. You will oversee a team of buyers, set up and refine purchasing processes, and ensure the effective use of tools and resources to manage our supply chain. You will focus on safety stock determination, PO placement, supplier delivery scheduling and expediting, and overall inventory level monitoring. Your goal is to ensure that the right quantity of parts is available at the right time to meet production needs.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Stock Determination: Develop and implement strategies for determining appropriate safety stock levels to prevent stockouts and overstock situations.
  • Continuously review and adjust safety stock levels based on changes in demand patterns, lead times, and supplier performance.
  • Supplier Delivery Scheduling & Expediting: Schedule and manage supplier deliveries to ensure timely arrival of materials.
  • Expedite orders as necessary to resolve any issues or delays impacting production schedules.
  • Inventory Level Monitoring: Monitor inventory levels regularly to ensure alignment with production needs and minimize excess or insufficient stock.
  • Use forecasting tools and data to anticipate inventory needs and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Purchase Order (PO) Placement: Oversee, create, and approve purchase orders to ensure accuracy and alignment with production requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to confirm order details and delivery schedules.
  • Clear to Build: Ensure that all necessary parts and materials are available and cleared for production before assembly begins.
  • Work closely with production teams to resolve any issues related to parts availability.
  • Team Management: Manage and mentor a team of buyers, providing guidance, support, and training to enhance their performance and development.
  • Set clear goals and performance expectations for team members and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Process Setup and Improvement: Develop and implement efficient purchasing processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Tools and Resources: Identify and provide the necessary tools and resources for effective inventory and procurement management.
  • Ensure team members are well-trained in using purchasing and inventory management systems.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present regular reports on inventory levels, purchasing activities, and supplier performance to the senior manager of planning.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement in the purchasing process.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency of MRP/ERP with a sound understanding of material requirements planning, bills of material, inventory control, product lifecycle management (PLM), procure to pay processes, and supply chain operations
  • NS experience is a PLUS
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including ability to optimize delivery costs and inventory levels are desired
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks based on demand
  • Ability to present material status effectively in weekly program/executive meetings
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in developing, implementing, and assessing key operational and financial metrics
  • Demonstrated skills in supplier operational and relationship management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skills, education, experience, and location is $140,000 - $160,000 annually for Hayward, CA and surrounding areas.
