Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.

Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

Material Planning is a critical function in our factory, ensuring the right materials are available at the right time for each step in the manufacturing process. We are challenging the vertically integrated Launch Industry and the legacy Defense Industrial Base by providing high-performance propulsion products on-time and in-full, every time. We do this with a small yet highly effective team who leverage technology, superior communication, and strong relationships to create opportunities where others won’t or can’t. As a Material Planner, you will engage with the Product and Process development teams from cradle to grave, providing exceptional ‘Planning as a Service’ through both effective use of ERP/MRP software tools and high levels of ownership and communication. If you have the ability, experience, and courage to tackle the job of scaling production from dozens to thousands, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Business Development and Program Management to aggregate data for sales and forecasted demand.
  • Collaborate with Operations Managers, Supply Chain, and other Material Planners to aggregate data for current and future production capacity.
  • Analyze demand and supply data and distill from it a valid Master Production Schedule.
  • Distill the Master Production Schedule into a weekly and daily Production Plan for each Work Center.
  • Determine the optimal Material Planning strategy for each part and assembly, such as Make to Stock vs Make to Order.
  • Configure the ERP/MRP System of Record with critical planning data such as manufacturing lead times, safety stock, and reordering points to unlock automated replenishment.
  • Identify potential future material shortages then design and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure they never come to reality.
  • Join forces with the Supply Chain team to see and communicate material shortage risks from vendors. Drive accountability for mitigation actions to protect the Production Schedule.
  • Ensure the daily Manufacturing Orders are released, kitted, staged, and completed on time, every time.
  • Gather, analyze, prepare and present Material Planning KPIs in regular reports to Operations Leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, science or accounting.
  • Experience configuring and executing tasks within an ERP/MRP software environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional planning, organization, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates Extreme Ownership.
  • Ability to work with a team of high performers who produce substantial results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Material Planning, Operations, or Supply Chain with a hardware focused organization.
  • Previous experience in the Aerospace, New Space, or Defense Tech industry, preferably with AS9100 certification and requirements.
  • Previous experience gathering and visualizing data within a BI Dashboard tool.
