We are seeking a strategic and analytical Director of Commodity Management to lead our sourcing and procurement operations related to key operational materials and components critical for our AI technology development. This role will play a key part in optimizing our supply chain processes to ensure that we remain agile and competitive in a rapidly evolving market. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in commodity management, particularly in sectors related to technology, electronics, and data centers, and have a strong understanding of the implications of sourcing decisions on AI product performance.

This role is hybrid, based out of Santa Clara, CA, Austin, TX or Toronto, ON.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive commodity management strategy that supports supply chain efficiency and aligns with the company’s AI technology goals.
  • Oversee the commodity management team, providing leadership, mentoring, and performance management to maximize effectiveness and development.
  • Analyze trends in commodity markets, including rare materials and electronic components essential for AI hardware and software solutions, as well as components used in data center operations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring they adhere to quality standards and deliver on time.
  • Negotiate favorable contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers, focusing on cost savings while ensuring the integrity and performance of AI components, including data center infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and product management teams to forecast demand accurately and adjust sourcing strategies to meet project timelines.
  • Monitor market dynamics and price fluctuations in commodities critical to AI development and data center management, implementing risk management strategies where necessary.
  • Provide insights and report on commodity performance, trends, and forecasts to executive leadership to inform long-term planning.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and ethical sourcing practices, in line with the company’s commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in commodity management, procurement, or supply chain management, with significant experience in the tech or AI industries and data center operations.
  • Strong understanding of commodity markets, particularly relating to electronic materials, hardware components, and supply chain dynamics in the technology sector and data centers.
  • Proven experience in negotiating complex contracts and building strong supplier relationships.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical-thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to make data-driven sourcing decisions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong proficiency with procurement software and tools for market analysis and supply chain management.

Compensation for all engineers at Tenstorrent ranges from $100k - $500k including base and variable compensation targets. Experience, skills, education, background and location all impact the actual offer made.
