Payroll Lead, as an individual contributor, will be responsible for the complete oversight of Tenstorrent's global payroll function. This role will require deep expertise in managing multi-country payroll operations, a thorough understanding of international payroll regulations, and the ability to drive process improvements. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Lead will collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers to maintain seamless payroll operations and support the company’s expansion.

This role is hybrid, based out of Santa Clara, CA, Austin, TX, or Toronto, ON

Responsibilities:

  • Global Payroll Operations
    • Execute and oversee payroll processing for employees across Tenstorrent's global locations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
    • Manage multi-country payrolls, including the US, Canada, Serbia, India, Japan and Germany, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
    • Coordinate with external payroll providers to ensure accurate payroll execution in each subsidiary.
    • Develop and implement standard payroll processes and procedures across all locations.
  • Compliance and Reporting
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and international payroll regulations, including tax filings and reporting requirements.
    • Prepare and submit payroll-related reports, including statutory filings, to relevant authorities.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws and regulations in all jurisdictions where Tenstorrent operates.
    • Collaborate with Accounting on payroll GL account reconciliations and manage internal/external payroll audits.
  • Process Improvement
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
    • Implement payroll best practices and innovative solutions to support Tenstorrent's growth.
    • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to integrate payroll processes with other systems and functions.
  • Employee Support and Communication
    • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and management, providing timely and accurate information.
    • Resolve payroll discrepancies and issues, ensuring employee satisfaction.
    • Communicate payroll policies and procedures effectively across the organization.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in payroll processing, with a strong focus on global or multi-country environments.
  • Proven experience in managing complex payroll operations as an individual contributor.
  • Extensive experience with payroll systems and software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, Rippling, Workday or similar platforms).
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll principles, tax regulations, and labor laws across multiple countries.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage complex payroll scenarios independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data management tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees, management, and external partners. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high degree of autonomy.

Additional information:

  • This role may require occasional travel to Tenstorrent's global offices.
  • Flexibility to work across different time zones is preferred.

Compensation for all engineers at Tenstorrent ranges from $100k - $500k including base and variable compensation targets. Experience, skills, education, background and location all impact the actual offer made.
