We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.
As a Sr. Mechanical Test Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be an integral part of the mechanical engineering team. We’re looking for a broadly experienced individual that combines the fields of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering to help us develop our mechanical testing operation. This is a clean slate opportunity to grow our primitive test operations into a production worthy operation. We need you to break our development hardware, identify root causes, and help redesign it. We need you to design automated acceptance test stands to identify manufacturing flaws. We need you to integrate load cells and data acquisition systems onto our testbed aircraft.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of mechanical test stands for functional and environmental qualification testing
  • Specify, source, and integrate required instrumentation
  • Automate the repetitive aspects of the test stands
  • Author, execute, and audit test plans, procedures, and reports
  • Perform data analysis and data reviews
  • Collaborate with the rest of the team to improve the flight hardware

Basic Success Criteria

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
  • 8+ years experience working in hardware test
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Proven track record of qualifying hardware in a highly regulated industry
  • Familiarity with environmental qualification testing standards (MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, or similar)

Preferred Success Criteria

  • 5+ years experience in aviation hardware test planning and execution
  • Wire harness fabrication and modification
  • Proficient with CAD and engineering drawing creation
  • Strong knowledge of measurement and data analysis
  • Working understanding of electrical systems and software scripting
  • Ability to work both independently and as a leader of a high performing team
  • Passionate about environmental, functional, and structural testing of hardware
The mechanical team has a wealth of knowledge to share, a strong desire to learn, and a passion for building safe mechanisms and robust structures. As a senior member of our team, you will play a key role in the development of the novel hardware that will transform the future of flight. From component level thermal testing to instrumenting our aircraft with a sensor suite for flight testing, you will also closely interface with our software, avionics, and flight operations teams as we ramp up our testing operations. The cross-functional nature of this role also lends itself to mentoring opportunities across the entire company.
The position will be located at our facility in Mountain View, California.
Must be willing to travel 30% of the time.
