We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.
We are seeking an energetic and motivated engineering intern to join the Reliable Robotics Embedded Systems team. The Embedded Systems team owns the firmware and software platforms at the heart of the Reliable Robotics autonomy stack. We provide computing, networking, signal acquisition, and motor control solutions to bring our aircraft to life. In this role, you can expect an internship that is similar to a job you would have upon graduation and to contribute directly to key equipment and aircraft capabilities under the guidance and supervision of more senior engineers.
Responsibilities
As an Embedded Systems Intern, your level of responsibilities and tasking will depend on your independence, capability, training, and interests. Areas of potential responsibility include bare-metal software development, FPGA design and coding, flight code simulation and testing, on-target integration and testing, and the build-out of continuous integration and delivery pipelines. You will work in a highly collaborative development environment including collective contribution to the design and mutual peer review to maintain high product quality. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, is well-grounded in first-principles knowledge, and is energized by learning, problem-solving, and constructive feedback.

Basic Success Criteria

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent with C/C++
  • Interest in on-target firmware and software development for real-time embedded systems
  • Ability to work in person from our headquarters in Mountain View, CA

Preferred Success Criteria

  • Proficiency with domain-specific development environments and languages such as Linux, Python, and Docker
  • Experience programming in a team environment using Git and GitHub
  • Hands-on experience working with embedded systems via design projects, internships, extracurricular engineering clubs, or equivalent
