About the Job:

Peak Energy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Structures to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and work on complex mechanical designs of our utility scale sodium-ion energy storage systems (ESS). The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for mechanical system and component designs and will work with other design, analysis, manufacturing and program teams both at the high level in design direction and deep in the engineering implementation. This person is hands-on, highly motivated and autonomous.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong ownership in design of Peak’s High Voltage ESS structural system from architecture through continuous improvement
  • Define product design direction by meticulously exploring broadly and deeply, while trading and communicating design decisions
  • Leverage experience in developing designs using extrusions, stamping, high pressure die castings, roll forming and injection molding
  • Use assembly processes such as Welding (laser, MIG, CMT, spot welding), dissimilar-material joining, adhesive selection, coating (dielectric and corrosion)
  • Develop and manage sub-system and component requirements
  • Interface tightly with partners such as thermal and structural analysts and other design functions to inform design decisions
  • Drive and participate in a culture of rapid protoyping and testing
  • Support validation of Peak products
  • Ensure a smooth transition from maturing product to production-ready

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience designing structural systems (e.g. vehicle body-in-white or chassis)
  • Strong structural engineering fundamentals
  • Extensive use of commercial CAD and PLM software
  • Familiarity with FEA and other common CAE practices
  • Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products
  • Hands on prototyping, validation and testing experience
  • Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and driving positive environmental impact through technology innovation.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HV Battery architecture development experience
  • Battery modeling, simulation and test experience
  • Product design experience with high volume automated manufacturing requirements
