About the Job:

Peak Energy is looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and work on the development of our gigawatt scale battery electrical and controls systems. This role will provide the design direction, implementation and testing of Peak’s embedded systems design and will work with the other design and manufacturing teams along with external partners to provide design direction and engineering implementation leadership. This person is both a leader and a doer.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical expert for Peak’s HV ESS embedded software and associated components, from early architecture through continuous improvement
  • Lead both internal development and work with suppliers on requirements, design decisions and interfaces in areas like BMS, power electronics and supervisory control
  • Play a key role in developing and managing Peak’s electrical systems sourcing strategy, balancing short and long term goals
  • Define and spearhead selection and development of software tools, infrastructure and best practices for a growing team
  • Support testing, integration and validation of Peak products
  • Develop and manage software requirements
  • Spearhead growth of the team and mentor more junior members in the greater organization
  • Drive and participate in a culture of rapid development and testing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical, Computer Science Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience working with HV systems
  • Strong electrical, software and controls engineering fundamentals
  • Demonstrated skills in C with object-oriented design, analysis and programming.
  • Understanding of operating system concepts, embedded software development environment and tools for real-time embedded operating systems (RTOS), such as Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS or VxWorks.
  • Experience with embedded system architectures, development environments and debugging.
  • Familiarity with high voltage battery system design
  • Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products
  • Hands on development, testing and validation experience
  • Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and driving positive environmental impact through technology innovation.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing BMS and EMS, power electronics and supervisory control systems
  • Utility-scale energy storage systems experience
