SUMMARY:
We are looking for a manufacturing engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is adept at turning ambiguity into action. We're looking for people who enjoy diving deep into the technology, with a proven record of shipping complex projects under demanding timelines. You will be responsible for successful outcomes and delivery. You are able to communicate and collaborate with product, quality, and operations teams. You are also able to work with teams across the world from largest to smallest details of manufacturing our products.
As a manufacturing engineer, you manage your project goals, maintain detailed design information related to the manufacturing and packaging of our products, and you continue refining designs and processes to improve yield and cost initiatives. Strong fundamentals are a requirement, but you have more. You take responsibility and feel a personal stake in the product you ship. You have extraordinary attention to detail and you value integrity. You show wisdom and judgment and you keep your eye on the keys to success. You build positive relationships across the organization to help manufacture products that are in line with the goals of Owlet.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate the maintenance of existing products using input from Product, Quality, Operations, Firmware, and Software teams to decide on necessity, feasibility, risk, required resources, and implementation strategy
- Collaborate with Product, Firmware, Software and Design teams to develop new products as well as the next generation of existing products
- Work closely with quality and external manufacturing teams to evaluate engineering change requests (ECRs) and non conformance material reports (NCMRs) as well as material disposition as needed
- Execute appropriate engineering change orders (ECOs) including necessary verification and validation testing as well as updates to appropriate design documentation
- Define and implement manufacturing line strategy to identify key risks, and maximize efficiency to drive down cost
- Identify key risks and develop mitigation strategies for critical components within Owlet’s BOMs, including identifying alternative components for long lead-time, constrained, and volatile priced parts
- Perform validation sign-off activities for manufacturing lines at contract manufacturing sites including installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ)
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- S. Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with 3+ years of manufacturing engineering experience
- Experience in manufacturing smart consumer products
- Experience in injection molding including textures, colors, and mitigating blemishes in surface finishes
- Exceptional problem solving, analysis, and communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail in testing and process documentation
- Experience managing mechanical/electrical BOMs as well as Firmware using Product Lifecycle Management Systems (Arena)
- Experience in creating/maintaining 3D CAD and supporting 2D documentation including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) (Solidworks, Altium)
- Ability to balance timelines, budgets, and risk
PREFERRED:
- Personal passion for Owlet’s mission
- Experience in medical device manufacturing
- Experience building a product data management system (PDM)
- Experience working with mechanical, electrical, and industrial design teams
- Experience leading several product release cycles in consumer electronics
- Experience with soft goods manufacturing
- Experience with product packaging
- Experience with consumer electronics
- Experience with low power electronics, bluetooth, and wifi
- Experience with Nordic Semiconductor nRF series
