About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Senior Manager of Final Mile Transportation to lead and oversee our delivery operations. This role will manage the entire network of independent contract drivers, Delivery Service Providers (DSPs), and third-party platform drivers, ensuring safe, on-time deliveries, cost efficiency, and seamless operations across all regions. This role will drive tactical execution, including week-over-week allocation, performance management, and process improvements. A smaller portion of the role (5-10%) will focus on strategic planning. As a key partner in the organization, this role will contribute to technology-driven initiatives and foster continuous innovation in our delivery processes.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership:
- Own and manage the nationwide Last-Mile Delivery network, including independent contract drivers, DSPs, and third-party platform drivers.
- Develop and execute short-term, week-over-week delivery allocation plans, ensuring optimal resource utilization and on-time performance.
- Ensure efficient daily network operations, handling issues as they arise and maintaining smooth service levels across all regions.
Performance Management:
- Monitor and drive on-time delivery performance, ensuring drivers and providers meet established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Focus on improving transportation costs per box, identifying opportunities for cost reduction without sacrificing service quality.
- Use data analytics to track key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze trends, and implement operational improvements.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Driver Services, Facility Leaders, Line Haul, Product, and Call Center teams to ensure seamless operations and alignment across all regions.
- Collaborate with tech teams to implement and optimize technology solutions that enhance last-mile delivery processes and improve the driver experience.
Safety and Compliance:
- Champion safety initiatives across the delivery network, ensuring compliance with all safety standards and regulations.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols for gig drivers, DSPs, and third-party drivers to mitigate risk and ensure a safe working environment.
Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage a geographically dispersed team of transportation managers, planners, and coordinators.
- Foster a performance-driven, collaborative culture within the team, ensuring clear communication and alignment with business goals.
Strategic Contributions:
- Contribute to long-term planning and strategic initiatives, optimizing carrier mix and network efficiency.
- Participate in negotiations with carriers, DSPs, and third-party providers to improve service and reduce costs.
- Assist in developing strategies for scaling the delivery network and enhancing performance.

- Costs: Continuously improve transportation cost efficiency while maintaining service quality.
- Driver Quality: Ensure the availability of the highest quality, most cost-effective, and reliable driver supply.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Strong ability to analyze data and drive operational decisions based on key performance metrics.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage and prioritize operational tasks, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership: Experience leading cross-functional teams remotely, managing team performance, and ensuring clear communication.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Ability to quickly identify operational issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Safety Focus: Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and enforcing safety protocols across all drivers and teams.
- Industry Experience: 5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management, with a specific focus on last-mile delivery or gig economy-based networks.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Technology Expertise: Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), last-mile delivery software, and data analytics tools.
- Operational Excellence: Strong track record of optimizing delivery processes, reducing costs, and improving service quality.
- Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel up to 25% for site visits, partner negotiations, and team collaboration.
