Job Summary
Enovix is looking for an exceptional candidate to join the Enovix Mobility team in the role of Cell Design Engineer to bring the unique benefits of the Enovix 3D cell architecture to the EV market. The Cell Design Engineer, Mobility will work cross functionally with customers and partners as well with the R&D, Engineering, Operations, and Product teams to define a product design and development plan to drive customer engagement and market entry.
The Cell Design Engineer, Mobility will be responsible for mechanical cell design and validation and will work closely with the R&D team and external vendors to optimize materials, electrode and component designs to meet the program performance targets. Additionally, the successful candidate with work with the Equipment team to design and implement any equipment necessary to fabricate EV class cells in a R&D, Pilot, or high-volume environment. The Cell Design Engineer, Mobility will work with customers to define specifications, optimize systems to take advantage of the unique Enovix cell architecture and support cell qualification efforts both internally and at customer facilities.

Building and scaling a 100% active silicon anode has long been a goal of the battery industry because it dramatically increases capacity and performance. Enovix, based in Fremont, California, is the first company in the world to be capable of volume production of advanced Lithium-ion batteries with a 100% active silicon anode using its 3D cell architecture. The company has designed, developed and sampled advanced Lithium-ion batteries with energy densities five years ahead of current industry production. Enovix’s initial goal is to provide designers of category-leading mobile devices with a high-energy battery so they can create more innovative and effective portable products. Enovix is also developing its 3D cell technology and production process for the EV and energy storage markets to help widespread use of renewable energy.

Responsibilities
- Be the voice of the Enovix EV cell design, bridging customer needs with business and technical requirements
- Lead cell design development, modelling and validation for large format, low cost EV class cells to deliver a differentiated product to our customers and partners
- Support cell design definition with mechanical, electrical, electrochemical and thermal analysis as required
- Work with internal and external teams to define and execute development, commercialization, and cost benchmarking and reduction programs
- Form strong external relationships in the market, including with existing and new partners, vendors, and customers
- Create clear and thoughtful communications for both internal and external audiences of all levels
- Creative, customer focused problem solver
- Support fundraising and grant submission efforts as necessary
- 5+ years experience as a Cell Design Engineer with demonstrated history or bringing new cell designs to market
- Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar physical science
- Experience with product design, development, and commercialization in the EV or adjacent markets
- Experience guiding cross functional teams through rapid and complex periods of transformation
- Experience in battery or automotive industry preferred
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
