Responsibilities

  • Develop the inventory costing method and related labor and overhead allocation for the company's first commercial product, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Design and implement cost management processes and use appropriate costing methodologies to recognize, determine, accumulate, and report costs of business activities such as cost of goods sold, inventory, labor usage, etc.
  • Represent Accounting in the enhancement of the inventory and cost module of Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain organizations to develop processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting of inventory data.
  • Own and execute month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation and analyses related to cost of goods sold, as well as inventory valuation, balances, adjustments and reserves.
  • Provide senior management with a clear and concise analysis of monthly actual COGS and inventory results, prepare periodic COGS forecasts/budgets, and develop robust monthly budget vs. actual variance reporting.
  • Partner with Engineering and Supply Chain teams to ensure Bill of Material accuracy including knowledge of cost reduction impact on financials.
  • Plan and manage cycle count and annual physical inventories.
  • Develop processes to evaluate inventory reserves.
  • Coordinate with external and internal auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audit.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures with respect to inventory and inventory related accounts.
  • Document controls, processes and procedures related to manufacturing accounting and ensure SOX 404 compliance.
  • Partner with the Senior Manager, Accounting on quarterly / annual supplemental financial disclosure reporting and analysis (e.g. significant purchase commitments, spend by vendor, embedded derivative questionnaires, etc.).
  • Take on additional duties and ad-hoc projects as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • US GAAP experience required.
  • At least 8 years of relevant accounting experience, including direct experience in a cost accounting role for a manufacturing company.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to act as a business partner and communicate with senior management.
  • Proven track record of success and increased levels of responsibility.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to perform at a high level in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with process improvement.
  • Advanced Excel skills & proficiency in Word & PowerPoint; familiarity with Dynamic 365 ERP is a plus.
